English: Chelsea qualified for the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup after defeating Portuguese club Benfica 4-1 in a match that extended to extra time.
Chelsea's first goal came from English right-back Reece James in the 64th minute, while Benfica equalized in the fifth minute of stoppage time through Angel Di Maria from a penalty kick that came at the last possible moment.
The match went into extra time, during which the Blues took advantage of the opportunity to score a goal in the 109th minute through Christopher Nkunku. Pedro Neto then added a third goal in the 114th minute, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the fourth goal in the 117th minute.
The match was held at Bank of America Stadium, as part of the round of 16 of the 2025 Club World Cup.
The match was stopped for more than two and a quarter hours, five minutes before the end, due to bad weather conditions, before it resumed again.
The match witnessed the expulsion of Benfica player Gianluca Prestiani after receiving two yellow cards in the 92nd minute of the first extra time.
Chelsea is scheduled to face Brazilian side Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday, July 5.
