French club Monaco announced today, Saturday, the official signing of Frenchman Paul Pogba during the current summer transfer window, marking his return to football competitions after his doping suspension.
The former Manchester United and Juventus midfielder has been provisionally suspended after undergoing a random test following Juventus' opening match of the 2023-24 season against Udinese.
He was later given a four-year ban, which was reduced to 18 months last October after an appeal.
Pogba agreed to terminate his contract with Juventus by mutual consent last November and resumed his football career last March as a free agent.
This will be the first time the World Cup winner has played for France in Ligue 1 in his career.
In its final ruling, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed that Pogba had unintentionally taken DHEA, a testosterone-boosting substance on the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) list of prohibited substances.
Pogba began his career at Manchester United before moving to Juventus, where he won the Italian league in each of his first four seasons, including two doubles.
He then returned to Old Trafford for a world record £89 million in 2016, winning the Europa League and FA Cup in his first season.
Pogba, who has 91 caps for France, then helped his country win the 2018 World Cup, scoring in the final as they beat Croatia 4-2 in Russia.
His last three seasons at Manchester United were hampered by injuries and a decline in form, and he failed to impress upon his free transfer to Juventus.
