Real Madrid is close to strengthening its ranks with a new defender to address the injuries that have plagued the squad this season, according to a Spanish press report.

According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, major Premier League clubs, such as Chelsea, have contacted the father of young Spanish defender Dean Huijsen, a Bournemouth player, to learn about his plans, while Real Madrid has also taken the same step.

The newspaper reported that Huijsen, who excelled in his first season in the English Premier League with Bournemouth, expressed a strong desire to move to Real Madrid, rejecting lucrative offers from English clubs.

The newspaper likened Huissen's situation to the story of Frenchman Lenny Yoro, who chose to move to Manchester United last year in search of a bigger financial offer.

In contrast, the Spanish international appears willing to sacrifice part of the English financial offers to join Real Madrid, who have shown no willingness to enter into financial auctions.

The Huijsen deal features the possibility of paying his €58 million release clause in three installments, as agreed by his father with Bournemouth. This is a fixed amount, unlike the large sums demanded by Lille in the Euro deal.

During the recent negotiations, the tone changed compared to previous talks that took place when Huissen was a junior, when the two sides failed to reach an agreement.

Now, the belief at Real Madrid's headquarters in Valdebebas is that Huissen represents a long-term investment for more than a decade, making him the most likely candidate to bolster a defense that has been plagued by injuries over the past two seasons.

However, Real Madrid has not ignored its interest in Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate, whose contract expires in June 2026, as the club knows how to deal with such situations, as happened in the Alexander-Arnold deal.
