Italian football fans are eagerly awaiting the important match between AC Milan and Bologna tomorrow, Wednesday, in the Coppa Italia final.
This match is a difficult one for both teams, given their desire to win the cup, a title that has been absent from the clubs' treasuries for decades.
Bologna have not won the Coppa Italia since 1974, while Milan have not won the title for 22 years (the last title was in 2003), despite reaching the final twice, but failing to win the title.
Bologna vs. "The Specialist"
But this time, the Rossoneri are led by a coach who specializes in cups, the Portuguese Sergio Conceicao.
Conceicao led his team, Milan, to a title this season, winning the Italian Super Cup last January, just one week after taking over as first-team coach.
This was the 50-year-old's twelfth trophy as a manager, nine of which were in cup competitions, in addition to his seven trophies as a player, with Porto and Lazio.
unknown fate
Portuguese coach Conceicao faces an uncertain fate as Milan's coach, given the team's inconsistent results.
Despite reaching the Coppa Italia final and coming close to winning the title, bringing his tally to two trophies in the five months he spent with Milan this season, it may not be enough to save the Portuguese coach's job.
Milan are eighth in Serie A with 60 points with two games remaining, and have little chance of qualifying for the Champions League - or any other European competition.
Winning the Coppa Italia would guarantee Milan a place in the Europa League and go some way to salvaging a season in which the Rossoneri have never competed in Serie A or Europe, having been eliminated from the Champions League by Feyenoord in the qualifying round.
Bologna's "unlucky" coach
Unlike Conceicao, Bologna's coach Vincenzo Italiano has not performed well in finals. Italiano has not won any trophies during his playing days, and as coach of Fiorentina, he lost the Europa Conference League final twice in a row - in 2023 and 2024 - and finished runner-up in the 2023 Coppa Italia.
