Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Wednesday that his team will have to do everything it can to win the Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao, despite holding a 3-0 lead in the first leg.

Manchester United put themselves in a good position to qualify for the final, thanks to a 3-0 win in the Spanish city last Thursday.

Manchester United are struggling domestically, sitting 15th in the Premier League.

"They shouldn't take anything seriously," Amorim said in a press conference. "If we look at our team, we can't predict what will happen. There are teams in any league that realize that the match will be like this, and it may change a little."

He added, "We have to treat the match as if it were our last match. I think we have to score to qualify for the next round, and that's how we're going to approach the match. We have to suffer a little to reach the final, and we're ready to suffer."

Manchester United will be without centre-back Matthijs de Ligt after the 25-year-old Dutchman sustained an injury in Sunday's 4-3 defeat to Brentford.

"It's not a big problem, and that's good. He won't be able to play tomorrow or Sunday, but we'll take it day by day and see. Aiden Haven hasn't recovered yet, and Toby Collier isn't available," he added.

Amorim was also asked about Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes, who has been the subject of speculation about a move to the Saudi Professional League in recent days.

Amorim confirmed that United want to keep their captain, who has scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions for the club this season, and I think it's easy to understand the speculation about his transfer, not just because of the numbers but because of the way he plays.

He concluded: "He is a top-class player, and we need top-class players. He is a leader.
