Barcelona are planning to sign Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate to bolster their defense, especially with doubts over the futures of Inigo Martinez and Andreas Christensen beyond next season.
Konate has attracted significant interest from Real Madrid in recent months, with the club aiming to conclude a pre-contract agreement similar to those signed by Kylian Mbappé and Trent Alexander-Arnold in recent years.
This could be completed starting in January, when the French international's current contract with Liverpool enters its final six months.
Liverpool are desperately trying to reach a new agreement with Konate, preventing any chance of him leaving as a free agent. However, their efforts have so far been unsuccessful, which explains the likelihood of his departure this summer.
However, Real Madrid would prefer to sign Konate on his own terms, ideally for free next summer. Club officials are considering this possibility if he doesn't sign a new contract with Liverpool, but they could face stiff competition.
According to CaughtOffside, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Konate, who would represent a huge market opportunity if his stay at Liverpool is not extended. The Premier League champions are now willing to sell him for £40 million, but none of the interested clubs, including Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, are willing to pay that amount.
As a free agent, Konate would be a great addition to Barcelona, as the 26-year-old will have the opportunity to play alongside Pau Coparci for many years to come, but the challenge lies in beating Real Madrid to his signature, which is not easy.
