An Italian newspaper reported on Sunday that the match between Inter Milan and Fluminense in the Club World Cup Round of 16 is in danger of being suspended due to severe weather warnings.
Inter Milan has qualified for the round of 16, where they will face Brazilian club Fluminense in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday evening.
According to Football Italia, the match being held in Charlotte means the area surrounding the stadium will be under weather warnings, not only due to the extreme heat, but also due to thunderstorms and lightning that could be triggered by the rising temperatures.
The report indicated that there are fears of a repeat of the chaos witnessed in the Chelsea-Benfica match in the round of 16, which was halted for more than two hours on the same pitch yesterday.
The match went into extra time, with Chelsea winning 4-1, and the final whistle blew after 4 hours and 39 minutes.
This was the sixth match in the Club World Cup to be suspended due to thunderstorms.
