Romanian referee to officiate Champions League final

UEFA officially announced the refereeing team for the Champions League final between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan on Monday.

UEFA issued a statement indicating that Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs will referee the 2025 Champions League final, which will be held at the Allianz Arena in Germany on Saturday, May 31, between Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan.

The 40-year-old international referee, who has been an international referee since 2010, will officiate his third European club final after being appointed to referee the 2024 Europa League final in Dublin, between Atalanta and Leverkusen, and the 2022 Europa Conference League final between Roma and Feyenoord in Tirana.

Kovacs has refereed seven Champions League matches this season, including the second leg of the round of 16 tie between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.

Kovacs will be assisted in the final by Mihai Marica and Ferenc Toniuji (from Romania), João Pedro Silva Pinheiro (from Portugal) as the fourth official, and Dennis Johan Heggler (from the Netherlands) as the VAR referee.
