Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi said his team deserved to lose to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.

Paris Saint-Germain claimed their first Champions League title in style, achieving the largest margin of victory in the history of the competition, with Saturday's match ending 5-0.

The defeat marked a bitter end to a disappointing season for Inter, the three-time European champions, who failed in three major competitions and ended the season without winning a single title.

"I've never felt that Inter Milan were at their best, and the players are the first to know that," said Inzaghi, whose team reached the final with a thrilling 7-6 aggregate win over Barcelona.

For Inzaghi, the loss was particularly painful, coming two years after his team narrowly lost to Manchester City in the 2023 final in Istanbul.

"I think Paris Saint-Germain deserved to win," the coach, whose team last won the European title under Jose Mourinho in 2010, told reporters at a brief press conference.

He continued: "There is great disappointment and bitterness because the players have performed brilliantly this season, and it is difficult to end the season without winning any titles. As a coach, I am still proud... We are not satisfied with tonight's match. We handled it poorly... We did not play the final in the best way, but I thanked the players."

Inzaghi acknowledged his team's weaknesses, saying Inter struggled to match the strength of Paris Saint-Germain.

"We were more tired than Paris Saint-Germain, who had clinched the French league title a few weeks earlier, while we were still competing for the Italian league title until the final weekend," Inzaghi explained.

He added: "We didn't play well technically. They arrived before us. We knew they were stronger than us, and we knew we had to be better, but we totally deserved to lose."
